Based on the principles of the Catholic Worker movement, which started in New York in 1933, the Vancouver Catholic Worker is a group of people who strive to practice the works of mercy. We have a house of hospitality in East Vancouver, called Samaritan House (after the Samaritan Woman at the Well and the Good Samaritan). We offer whatever spare room we have to anyone who needs a place to stay, as well as trying to build community around us - geographically and spiritually.
We live there, go to work from there, worship, garden, and play there. We use our personal income and donations from others to run the house and we try to create a home for whoever is under our roof.
