There are three different Catholic faith communities in the DTES:

Sacred Heart Church

Sacred Heart Church, located at 525 Campbell Avenue, has served the Strathcona/Grandview/Woodlands communities since 1905. In its early years, it primarily served the immigrant community providing support to Italian families new to Canada, and often assisted them to find work and adjust to their new environment. The Church site started with a school, after which a convent, church and rectory were built. By 1960, the Church site had four buildings occupying approximately half a block of land providing church services, education, and social opportunities to Catholics in the community.

St Paul's Church

A small parish, serving a congregation of approximately 50 people, St Paul’s Church on Cordova Street has served the Downtown Eastside community for over 75 years.

KateriBlessed Kateri Tekakwitha Centre

Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Native Centre is located adjacent to Sacred Heart Church on Keefer Street as a centre to serve the Catholic Aboriginal community. Mass is celebrated weekly, which incorporates elements of Aboriginal spirituality.
